[attr="class","theplot"]WELCOMEWelcome to Never To Return. We are so pleased that you have found your way into our humble part of the Harry Potter universe. We were established in November of 2009 by three dedicated players: Heidi, Victoria and Brody! We're a small, but growing community of friendly writers and creative people. We operate under an OPEN world concept where plots and ideals are not and will not be strictly monitored. This allows a wide variety of creative freedom within reason in this particular fandom.
PLEASE CREATE AN OOC ACCOUNT WITH YOUR PEN NAME ALONG WITH YOUR FIRST CHARACTER ACCOUNT.[attr="class","theplot"]GENERAL☆ This message board is rated 3-2-3 per Proboards' Terms of Service and all members must be 16 years of age or older. If you are under the age of sixteen and choose to join this community anyway then you must be aware that we are not responsible for content you may stumble upon during your stay nor what you choose to write yourself. There are to be no excessive sexual situations or overly graphic blood and gore. In the case of romance, please fade to black after a point. Mark threads with sensitive content with (TW) or (M). A warning at the start of the thread template is also acceptable.
☆ We understand that there is a lot of lore out there! We can't possibly know everything there is to know about the Harry Potter world. Keep in mind that we also carry tones of mythology so not everything will be exact to the lore of Harry Potter. This site, and the world within, was partially crafted by a series of dedicated members at the beginning of 2009 and of course the canon works belong to J.K. Rowling herself.
☆ We do not accept any new or personally crafted races or abilities on site. We feel within the realm of magic and mythology, and what has already been crafted for the site, there is already so much opportunity to be had!
☆ Do not spam the boards outside of the designated spam board. This includes personal messages. Do not advertise your forum outside of the advertising forum.
☆ ACTIVITY CHECKS! We hold a very simple activity check every six months. Twice a year. If you happen to lose a character during an activity check you can not remake them. You must wait ONE MONTH before reapplying!
☆ We will never delete your work. At the end of the activity check the staff will comb through inactive accounts and threads and move them to the appropriate boards. This makes things super easy if you've been away but are coming back to us. All you need to do is contact a member of staff to see your work restored and accounts reactivated![attr="class","theplot"]GRAPHICS
☆ Please provide an avatar for your character. You can find premade avatars at various places, such as Hollow Art. If you need help with any graphics, post in the graphics forum, someone will offer to help. Please use a 150x150 or 245x245 if you can as it looks the nicest but anything will work as long as it is square. Please do not hotlink. Please upload all images to a private site like Imgbb or Post Images. If you use graphics from an outside source be sure to credit them.
☆ We do NOT allow face claims from anime, drawings/paintings, cartoons or video games for characters. Consider a reserve on a claim if you're worried about losing them before your application is finished. Do not pester fellow members about swapping faces with you. First come and first serve! Please keep your graphics on-topic. It can be confusing to see a comic or LOLcat in your signature if your character is not a LOLcat.
☆ We use the +10 / -10 rule in selecting face claims! The face claim you wish to use for your character may not exceed the character's age by 10 years nor fall short of the character's age by 10 years. For example, if your character is 31, you may not have a celebrity that is 45 or 19 to represent them on site. Special races excluding Squibs are the exception to this rule. Any character over the age of 50 will not be limited by the +10 rule but will be limited by the -10 rule.
☆ You may not use a face claim that is deceased. If something unexpected happens to your face while you are using them, we would respectfully ask you to change the face. You may not use the face of anyone that is under the age of eighteen.[attr="class","theplot"]CHARACTER CREATION
☆ WE DO NOT HAVE A CHARACTER LIMIT! Please take as many characters as you feel you can handle. The staff have the right to deny any application they feel belongs to a serial character creator, that is, creating characters and never posting with them after an already high character count (25+). We recommend having characters in at least one IC thread before creating another to avoid this!
☆ Your first FIVE characters on NTR will NOT require recent posts. We understand how difficult it can be when waiting on other players to generate the needed posts with just a character or two. After your first five you will need TEN recent posts to create a new character. These posts can be from any IC board with the exception of social media platforms and text threads. Phone calls threads taking place on the main board ARE accepted. These posts can be from any number of threads and characters you choose. This is to ensure characters are being made to be played as they deserve and as you can handle!
☆ As stated in the site plot, this site is loosely canon. We will not accept characters from the books or films and/or their descendants in a major capacity. (Potters, Weasleys) We do not allow any Mary Sues or Gary Stues. Characters have flaws. If you're afraid your character is a Mary Sue, consider taking the Mary Sue Test or consulting a fellow member. Keep in mind that while younger characters can be talented, it is very unlikely that they could hold their own in a battle with the Dark Lady.
☆ Apply special abilities to your characters within reasonable limits. No member will be granted THREE abilities on ONE character. You shouldn’t find yourself holding multiple characters with multiple abilities, meaning, you shouldn’t have 5 of 7 characters with two abilities per character. Races do not count toward abilities.
☆ We would ask you to be considerate and limit your positions of power as well as be active with the ones that you do have. If at any point your fellow members find your power limit to be too much, or you too inactive in a position of power, they may choose to act upon it and contact a member of staff. Each case will be dealt with individually.
☆ We all enjoy being part of a big family but what happens when the family head leaves the site or cuts ties? When the family creator leaves the site they may elect to leave a player in charge of the remaining played members of the family. We will not ask you to surrender your characters. If the player does not elect someone to take their place the job will go to the next person who has played a member of that particular family for the longest.
☆ We understand that people leave the site sometimes. So what do you do with the plots that are left behind once they're gone? You may replace the names and characters of those that shaped your character into OCs of your creation or fill in the blanks with new characters. We do require that if you fill in the blanks with new played characters that you twist the plot to make it original so as not to infringe on the creative rights of the former player. This only requires small swapping of details and is only courteous to your fellow writers!
☆ We love when people take classifieds! When you take an ad you have exactly two months to the day to create that character. After the two month period has expired the original requester has the right to ask for the classified back at their own discretion. This is to provide equal opportunity to all players and keep the field fair for writers waiting on characters to advance their plots![attr="class","theplot"]POSTING AND ACTIVITY
☆ We understand that real life can be a real pain sometimes and we are 210% willing to work with whatever activity level you want to bring to the table. Real life will always come first! If you are going to be gone for longer than 72 hours we would ask that you let us know! You are under no obligation to give us a reason for the absence. If your writing partners go longer than 72 hours with no response they are able to move on with a group thread or mass thread without your post.
☆ PLOT MAINTENANCE: Any, and all members have the right and privilege to enforce their own requirement when it comes to ships but it must be applied to everyone they RP with. No favourites, no exceptions to these rules. E.g a player cannot give one person one month to post and another four before cancelling their plots. In conjunction with this, if a plot is agreed to and one of the roleplayers fails to write or give suitable alternatives within the specified time frame, the remaining writer(s) are well within their rights to retract plots or substitute them. (within reason). It isn't fair for players for force other members into months of stagnation, and if a member is found to have done this we ask for it to be reported to a member of staff. To clarify, this substitution can only be used if the silent member isn't responding to direct messages or is outright refusing to post (or says they will post but does not to actually post) after an extended period specified when establishing the plot or after two months. This is a last resort.
☆ Roleplay is to be written in story format (ie, how you would write a book), in the third person, and in the past tense. Don't bug other people about posting to you. Be patient and find something else to do to keep you occupied while waiting. The minimum word count is 250. Anything below this will not count and you may be asked to increase the world count. 250 is equal to roughly 12-20 sentences. The staff believe that 250 words is enough to provide detail for your fellow roleplayer without putting strain on wavering muse.
☆ No God-modding. If you think it's vital to your post, check with the person you're modding beforehand. Nobody likes to see their character played unrealistically by someone else, it's just common courtesy. Do not use meta-knowledge to warp your character's perception of another character. Keep it mature, and if you want your character to know something about another character, discuss it with that player beforehand.
☆ Occupations: Remember your character must show qualifications for holding any sort of employment. Be realistic in your Adult Character's occupation. A 23 year-old character should not be head of any sort of Ministry Department or the Headmaster of a school. A freshly graduated teenager (17/18) would not have the initial training required to jump right into a “skilled” area of work. They are likely to go through a training period. This is especially true for occupations such as Healers, Unspeakables, and Aurors. These time periods in their lives will probably be spent as a "Trainee" or "Intern". There is even the possibility of attending a Magical College to accelerate the process. One year is the default training period on NTR- unless differently specified by Canon. (There are some exceptions to this rule e.g. if you combine a University degree with being a trainee the length of training will be shortened)
☆ Characters within a position of power, or those with a mastery perk, are expected to be active. This is so that all plots on site move along without a hitch and opportunities are always available! Episkey is the word. We understand real life happens from time to time and we recommend putting up an absence and speaking directly with a staff member if you're going to be away for an extended period to ask we place your accounts on hold. Those holding a position of power will need to post once every TWO MONTHS to retain the position. If two months goes by and you haven’t posted we will demote your character and strip them of special titles. Even with real life taking a toll we think this amount of time is more than reasonable for a site that has no minimum word count.
☆ MASTERY PERKS are a fun addition to NTR and create unique opportunities for active players. You may have TWO perks in total across all characters. No one character will have two perks to their name. There’s no real limit to what your character can choose to master in but we do limit the ability to master in a canon skill (legilimency or occlumency) to ONE PER MEMBER. If you lose your perk due to inactivity you will not be given a refund of the 200 galleons you spent to buy the perk.
☆ CHARACTER CHALLENGES! With each challenge comes the possibility of big rewards! Some of these are designed to help you gain money quickly, however, we do not tolerate abuse of this system. You may not spam a challenge board to “cheat” the system and gain rewards others have had to earn honestly through posts and completion of tasks.
Examples of this include but are not limited to:
::☆:: Posting multiple playlists or scenarios for one character within a challenge. You may do so but may only collect a reward for that character once.
::☆:: Only doing the minimum post count across multiple accounts to earn rewards. For example, leaving multiple threads unfinished once a reward is gained.
::☆:: Starting a challenge but not finishing it once a reward is earned. For example, one memory in the pensieve challenge or an introductory post with no intent to follow through.[attr="class","theplot"]CODE OF CONDUCT
☆ Be mature. DO NOT BRING OOC DRAMA IC OR VICE VERSA! Treat people as you would wish to be treated. Be courteous towards your fellow members and do not put anyone down or abuse anyone. If you have a problem with someone, please try to be adults about it and talk it out! If you feel like a conversation in a DM might trigger some negative emotions, take a moment to cool down before proceeding. All decided upon and appropriate actions will be respected and enforced by the staff team. We have no tolerance for bullying. If it is uncovered that you have bullied another member, you will be banned.
☆ While Discord is not regulated by Proboards we do still ask that you follow our site rules when joining and engaging in conversation. Be mindful of common decency and considerate of the other human being sitting on the other end of that DM screen. We strive to create a community based on mutual maturity and harmony. We’re all adults here and we expect our members to behave as such. The staff reserves the right to remove any server participant(s) whom they feel has disrupted the peace of the community at any time without notice or warning based on the severity of the action. We strive to create a welcoming and fulfilling space that is safe for all members that call it home. While we will not simply ban a member for being rude however in instances of bullying, intolerance, racism, sexism and or any other offense that deliberately suggests malicious intent toward a fellow, we will take corrective action.[attr="class","theplot"]A GUIDE TO POSITIONS OF POWER
☆ Positions of power are based on how you balance your characters. We have certain limits that will have no exception such as one position of ultimate power per player unless bought with galleons in the rewards claim thread. Ultimate powers count as leaders of Ministries (in any country) and organisational leaders. However, secondary positions of power will be based on how many characters you hold. You will be given four secondary power slots for your first ten characters. From there you will gain one additional slot for every five characters after. How you choose to divide the powers among your characters is completely up to you.
Ultimate powers -
Organization leaders. (Hunters and Alliance)
Secondary powers -
Department heads for Ministry. (including undersecretary positions)
St. Mungo’s department heads.
Foreign ministry major powers such as Auror Chief or Ministers.
☆ Minor or individually ran groups such as mob and mafia rings do not count as major players and therefore do not count against your positions of power. Royals also do not count as they do not have a direct impact in the magical community. Why do the positions of high power in England count as ultimate powers but not other nations? We are set in England so the large majority of our plot and power will be based out of this region. All other nations are minor players in the game!
☆ Ranking positions within major groups (Hunter and Alliance) do not count toward your power slots but they ARE subjected to the same activity requirements.
