[attr="class","theplot"]WELCOMEWelcome to Never To Return. We are so pleased that you have found your way into our humble part of the Harry Potter universe. We were established in November of 2009 by three dedicated players: Heidi, Victoria and Brody! We're a small, but growing community of friendly writers and creative people. NTR is a SANDBOX style site which means it's essentially ran and driven by its MEMBERS and not an administration team but rather a support staff. While you can contact one of the maintenance accounts on site they are essentially there for the purpose of fixing bugs and adding member titles as well as other simple maintenance functions about the site. In case of emergency you may reach out to NEVER TO RETURN STAFF . PLEASE CREATE AND OOC ACCOUNT WITH YOUR PEN NAME ALONG WITH YOUR FIRST CHARACTER ACCOUNT. You may contact a maintenance account as a last resort or with a definitive resolution between members. As a sandbox site we are an OPEN world concept where plots and ideals are not and will not be strictly monitored. This allows a wide variety of creative freedom within reason in this particular fandom. The rules are suggestions we encourage and hope you will respect as a member of NTR. However since there is not a staff team in place they may not be strictly enforced and monitored and our members are encouraged to speak up and take action if they feel they are not.[attr="class","theplot"]GENERAL☆ This message board is rated 3-2-3 per Proboards' Terms of Service and all members must be 16 years of age or older. If you are under the age of sixteen and choose to join this community anyway then you must be aware that we are not responsible for content you may stumble upon during your stay nor what you choose to write yourself. There is to be no excessive sexual situations or overly graphic blood and gore. In the case of romance, please fade to black. Mark threads with sensitive content with (TW) or (M).
☆ We understand there is a lot of lore out there! We can't possibly know everything there is to know about the Harry Potter world. Keep in mind that we also carry tones of mythology so not everything will be exact to the lore of Harry Potter. This site, and the world within, was partially crafted by a series of dedicated members in the beginning (2009) and J.K. Rowling herself. The canon on site is what we hold to be true in our little corner of the vast verse! We do not accept new or personally crafted races or abilities on site. We feel within the realm of magic and mythology there is already so much opportunity to be had!
☆ Do not spam the boards outside of the designated spam board. This includes personal messages. Do not advertise your forum outside of the advertising forum.
☆ ACTIVITY CHECKS! We simply do not have activity checks. We never delete your work. About every four months or so the maintenance accounts will comb through inactive accounts and threads and move them to the appropriate boards. This makes things super easy if you've been away but are coming back to us. All you need to do is contact a member of staff to see your work restored and accounts reactivated![attr="class","theplot"]GRAPHICS
☆ Please provide an avatar for your character. You can find pre-made avatars at various places, such as Hollow Art. If you need help with any graphics, post in the graphics forum, someone will offer to help. Please use a 150x150 or 245x245 if you can as it looks the nicest but anything will work as long as it is square. Please do not hotlink. Please upload all images to a private site like Imgbb or Post Images. If you use graphics from an outside source be sure to credit them.
☆ We do NOT allow face claims from anime, cartoons or video games for characters. Consider a reserve on a claim if you're worried about losing them before your application is finished. Do not pester fellow members about swapping faces with you. First come and first serve! Please keep your graphics on-topic. It can be confusing to see a comic or LOLcat in your signature if your character is not a LOLcat.[attr="class","theplot"]CHARACTER CREATION
☆ WE DO NOT HAVE A CHARACTER LIMIT! Please take as many characters as you feel you can handle. The staff have the right to deny any application they feel belongs to a serial character creator, that is, creating characters and never posting with them after an already high character count (25+). We recommend having characters in at least one IC thread before creating another to avoid this!
☆ As stated in the site plot this site is loosely canon and therefore we will will not accept characters from the books/films and/or their descendants in a major capacity (Potters, Weasleys). We do not allow any Mary Sues or Gary Stues. Characters have flaws. If you're afraid your character is a Mary Sue, consider taking the Mary Sue Test or consulting a fellow member. Keep in mind that while younger characters can be talented, it is very unlikely that they could hold their own in a battle with the Dark Lady.
☆ Apply special abilities to your characters within reasonable limits. No one character will be granted THREE abilities on ONE character. Races do not count toward abilities. If members think you're getting out of hand they are within their limits to decide how to handle the situation. We would ask you to be considerate and limit your positions of power as well as be active with the ones that you do have. If at any point your fellow members find your power limit to be too much, or you too inactive in a position of power, they may choose to act upon it.
☆ We all enjoy being part of a big family but what happens when the family head leaves the site or cut ties? When the family creator leaves the site they may elect to leave a player in charge of the remaining played members of the family. We will not ask you to surrender your characters. If the player does not elect someone to take their place the job will go to the next person who has played a member of that particular family for the longest.
☆ We understand that people leave the site sometimes. So what do you do with the plots that are left behind once they're gone? You may replace the names and characters of those that shaped your character into OCs of your creation or fill in the blanks with new characters. We do require that if you fill in the blanks with new played characters that you twist the plot to make it original so as not to infringe on the creative rights of the former player. This only requires small swapping of details and is only courteous to your fellow writers!
☆ We love when people take classifieds! When you take an ad you have exactly two months to the day to create that character. After the two month period has expired the original requester has the right to ask for the classified back at their own discretion. This is to provide equal opportunity to all players and keep the field fair for writers waiting on characters to advance their plots![attr="class","theplot"]POSTING
☆ We understand that real life can be a real pain sometimes and we are 210% willing to work with whatever activity level you want to bring to the table. Real life will always come first! If you are going to be gone for longer than 72 hours we would ask that you let us know! You are under no obligation to give us a reason for the absence. If your writing partners go longer than 72 hours with no response they are able to move on with a group thread or mass thread without your post.
☆ Roleplay is to be written in story format (ie, how you would write a book), in the third person, and in the past tense. Don't bug other people about posting to you. Be patient and find something else to do to keep you occupied while waiting. We have no minimum word count.
☆ No God-modding. If you think it's vital to your post, check with the person you're modding beforehand. Nobody likes to see their character played unrealistically by someone else, it's just common courtesy. Do not use meta-knowledge to warp your character's perception of another character. Keep it mature, and if you want your character to know something about another character, discuss it with that player beforehand or it will be considered God-modding.
☆ Occupations: Remember your character must show qualifications for holding any sort of employment. Be realistic in your Adult Character's occupation. A 23 year-old character should not be head of any sort of Ministry Department or the Headmaster of a school. A freshly graduated 17 or 18 year-old would not contain expertise information, but would likely go through a training period, especially in occupations like Healers, Unspeakables, and Aurors. These periods will probably be spent as a "Trainee" or "Intern," there are even the possibility of their attending a Magical College. One year is the default training period on NTR- unless differently specified by Canon (there was some exception to the rule e.g. if you combine a University degree with being a trainee). But overall, be realistic when it comes to your character's occupation and experiences.
☆ Characters within a position of power are expected to be active. This is so that all plots on site move along without a hitch and opportunities are always available! We understand real life happens from time to time and we recommend putting up an absence and speaking with a staff member personally if you're going to be away for an extended period. Those holding a position of power will need to post once every TWO MONTHS to retain the position. If two months goes by and we can't reach you we will demote your character.[attr="class","theplot"]CODE OF CONDUCT
☆ Be mature. DO NOT BRING OOC DRAMA IC OR VICE VERSA! Treat people as you would wish to be treated. Be courteous towards your fellow members and do not put anyone down or abuse anyone. If you have a problem with someone, please try to be adults about it and talk it out! If you feel like a conversation in a DM might trigger some negative emotions, take a moment to cool down before proceeding. Member disputes will be resolved by fellow members and all decided upon appropriate actions taken will be respected and enforced. This includes in the community believes a BAN to be the best action to take. We have no tolerance for bullying. If it is uncovered that you have bullied another member, you will be banned.
☆ While Discord is not regulated by Proboards we do still ask that you follow our site rules when joining and engaging in conversation. Be mindful of common decency and considerate of the other human being sitting on the other end of that DM screen. We strive to create a community based on mutual maturity and harmony. We’re all adults here and we expect our members to behave as such. The staff reserves the right to remove any server participant(s) whom they feel has disrupted the peace of the community at any time without notice or warning based on the severity of the action. We strive to create a welcoming and fulfilling space that is safe for all members that call it home. While we will not simply ban a member for being rude however in instances of bullying, intolerance, racism, sexism and or any other offense that deliberately suggests malicious intent toward a fellow, we will take corrective action.
